Adoption for Single Parents
For the most part, adoption for single parents is the same process as for
couples. However, for domestic and international adoption, each private adoption agency has its own criteria, so you should research the agencies and find out which one is best for you. Additionally, some countries have specific requirements regarding marriage and single parenting, so again, check with an adoption agency.
Adopting from the foster care system (also sometimes called special needs adoption) has a high percentage of families who adopt as single parents. When you become licensed as a parent in order to adopt a foster child, you will be assigned an agency that works closely with Wisconsin Dept. of Children and Families. The state does not discriminate on marital status.
